UK Public Sector Contract Awards

The UK government spends over £300 billion per year on public services, a substantial proportion of which goes to private sector suppliers via competitive procurement. The Procurement Act 2023 — which replaced the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 — requires public authorities to publish contract award notices, creating one of the world's most transparent public procurement records.

TenderResults aggregates UK contract award notices from two official government sources: Contracts Finder (covering contracts above £12,000 awarded by central government and public bodies) and Find a Tender (covering contracts above the current UK threshold of approximately £213,477). Together these portals give a comprehensive view of UK public procurement outcomes.

The two UK procurement portals

📋 Contracts Finder

The main UK public procurement portal. Covers contracts from £12,000 upwards across central government, NHS and arm's-length bodies. Also includes many voluntary publisher local authorities.

🔍 Find a Tender

Replaced OJEU/TED for UK notices post-Brexit. Mandatory for contracts above the UK thresholds. Covers central government and utilities procurement.

Who must publish contract awards in the UK?

Under the Procurement Act 2023, the following bodies must publish contract award notices: central government departments and agencies, NHS bodies (trusts, ICBs, NHS England), local authorities (many voluntarily publish on Contracts Finder), police and fire authorities, universities and further education colleges for higher-value contracts, housing associations and other registered social landlords above thresholds, and utilities operating in the public sector.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find UK government contract award notices?
UK contract award notices are published on two official portals: Contracts Finder (contractsfinder.service.gov.uk) for contracts above £12,000, and Find a Tender (find-tender.service.gov.uk) for contracts above the statutory threshold. TenderResults aggregates both sources daily into a single searchable database.
What is the Procurement Act 2023?
The Procurement Act 2023 replaced the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and came into full effect in February 2025. It introduced a new transparency regime, including a requirement to publish more information about contract awards, including award criteria scores, and strengthened the presumption in favour of open competition. TenderResults captures notices published under both the old and new regimes.
What is the UK public sector contract publication threshold?
Under the Procurement Act 2023, the current thresholds for publishing on Find a Tender are approximately £213,477 for most goods and services contracts awarded by central government and NHS bodies. Contracts Finder captures lower-value awards from £12,000 upwards. Local authorities have a slightly higher threshold for Find a Tender publication.
Can I search for contracts by specific council or NHS trust?
Yes. Use the search bar on TenderResults and type the name of the council, NHS trust, or other public body you are interested in. Results will show all published contract awards where that body is listed as the contracting authority. You can combine a buyer name search with a category or value filter to narrow further.
How is UK procurement data different after Brexit?
Before Brexit, UK contracts above the EU threshold were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) via TED. Since January 2021, UK contracts are published on Find a Tender instead. TED no longer includes UK notices. TenderResults uses Find a Tender for UK data and TED separately for EU member state contracts.
